Broad Swords

Broad swords are a type of an early modern-day sword with a broad double-edged blade used for cutting. Compared to a rapier, which is quite slender, these have a basket hilt. These historical swords were used by knights, and they even used it without their armors, due to their heaviness. Broadswords are also used synonymously with medieval swords or as a wide military blade. Sword collectors, theatrical-fighters, sport fencers, gamers, and museum curators have played a great role in giving popularity to broadswords. These swords were designed to be wielded with either one or two hands, but usually with two hands. Such swords evolved from Viking long swords to Norman broadsword, as it’s design and metallurgy was improved.
