Tricorn Hats

What type of Pirate would you be without your hat? I mean you have to look your best when entering port even if the hat was most likely stolen. Seriously how are you supposed to impress the ladies wearing an old beater? Normally only the Captain would have worn a Tricon hat all the time. Besides showing status these hats were also practical as the laced sides could be lowered to better protect from the weather. When it rained the turned-up portions of the brim formed gutters that directed rainwater away from the wearer's face, depositing most of it over his shoulders. During the 17th and 18th century this style of hat was very popular so besides pirates and military personnel, civilians also donned these hats often.
