Toggles are long, skinny and often rounded; they can be used as buttons in buttonholes or with a loop fastening. Together with thongs, horn toggles were used predominantly on medieval shoes and seem to be used in the northern more primitive cultures. Toggles are still used to day on pea coats and large jackets.
